Hook

Last evening our family paid a visit to Neverland via the DVD Hook.  Starring Robin Williams as Peter Banning an overworked lawyer and father of two, with Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook, Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell (I like her so much better with long hair!) and Maggie Smith as Granny Wendy Darling.

Yes, the book of Peter Pan was written based on Wendy's adventures.  Wendy, now a grandmother, is being recognized for her work with orphans and Peter and his family fly to be there for the celebration.  While at the ceremony, Peter's son and daughter are kidnapped and Peter must save them.  He must go to Neverland, he must believe, he must battle Captain Hook again, this time for the lives of his children!

I love this version of the story of Peter Pan.  It serves as a reminder to all to never grow old but to live and enjoy life.

Steven Spielberg creates some real magic in this old but never dated nor boring film.  This should be a classic in everyone's library.

Rated  5/5

  1. I don't think it's a good sequel at all. It completely contradicts much of Barrie's original story. Besides the fact that Hook died, there are fact-checking and thematic mistakes. And it's a little more than ridiculous.

There is a book out that's a continuation based on Barrie's own notes for more: Click!

And if the character of Hook is more your thing, there's a cool "What If?" adventure that takes the characters on another path:

    Read both! :)

  2. Never Fairy,
Thankyou for stopping by. I value all comments and opinions. As with the majority of books made into movies, things are changed and shortchanged. There are only a couple exceptions that come to mind Julie & Julia and Confessions of a Shopaholic.

  3. But that's not a book made into a movie. It's an attempt at sequel that blantantly ignores facts within the original tale. That's not the same as making structural changes to a novel's plot. :)
